Pearl jam mtv unplugged rym11/10/2023 Happened to get lumped in with Seattle bands. But if you really listen to the bones and structure of their music, especially the first three albums, they were on their own wavelength. Fake band this, hack, grunge copycat that. I remember people used to trash the fuck out of them. Stop caring about public perception, and just make up your own mind. Just calm down, don't pay attention to what others think, and just enjoy the music you like. But Nirvana stuff will always be more popular with the general audience, so that's the reason it will be rated higher on sites like RYM and stuff. They are both highly praised, and that should be enough for you. There is no "better" album between the two from an objective point of view. When it comes to the music part, it's just very subjective. His death at the height of their success further strengthened this position, while also elevating Cobain into this legendary, almost mythical/mystical status. They blew the door open for the mainstream when it comes to alternative rock (for example: even though Jane's Addiction preceded them, they were nowhere near as popular) and Cobain's look, charisma, demeanor was just perfect to become a generation's true idol. I adore all the big 4 bands equally, but I'm not at all surprised why Nirvana was the biggest. The last true "rockstar", one of the biggest icons from the 90s. Yes, as of right now I like AIC’s unplugged performance better, but there’s a good chance (in the future) I could end up liking Nirvana’s performance better.Īgain, I appreciate the replies and discussion! I’m not trying to say that objectively, one is better than the other. I was just wondering why Nirvana’s performance is consistently ranked at #1. I’m not a musician, so I didn’t know if there’s was some other reason that I didn’t know about. If somebody could fill me in, that would be great! Also, let me know what performance you think is better! Thank you!Įdit: this is not a dig on Nirvana. When it comes to the unplugged performances, I do think Nirvana did an incredible job and I’m not trying to take any credit away from them, but why is Nirvana’s unplugged performance consistently ranked higher than AICs? Like Jerry Cantrell said, “what Layne writes/sings is so wrong, but so right!” They’re incredibly talented and the songwriting is absolutely insane. I will admit though, I do think AIC was the best Seattle band of the 90s. Don’t get me wrong, I have a special love for Nirvana, as they were among one of the first bands I listened to as a kid.
